Belgian shepherds are a unique and old breed, originally all-purpose farm dogs, they are now used in many working and sport applications, particularly police and military K9, and protection sports. In Europe, Belgian shepherds come in four varieties, rather than distinct breeds including malinois, tervueren (long coat), groenendael, and laekenois. It is quite common to breed a litter, and produce both malinois and tervuren. The puppies are registered in Europe as the variety they are, while in the United States, the AKC considers tervuren and malinois distinct breeds.
I love the appearance of the long-coat Belgian shepherds, imported a working-line female tervuren from an experienced, well respected breeder in the Netherlands to start a small and specialized working-line tervuren breeding program.
I strive to produce healthy puppies, who are able to think independently but are also eager to work with and for their handler, have stable and confident temperaments, and working drives appropriate to work in protection sports, and/or real-world applications such as SAR, K9, or scent detection. My goal is dogs that are stable and neutral in public and capable of settling in the home given appropriate energy and working outlets.
My puppies are raised in my home, with lots of love and early stimulation, imprinted, and exposed to many surfaces, people, and animals. All puppies come with limited AKC registration, health-checked, and microchipped. Pups also come with lifetime breeder support.
